Houston Tire Defect Claim Lawyer

Houston is a sprawling city and many people require a vehicle to get around. Most people trust that their vehicles are safe, as is all of the equipment on the vehicle. Unfortunately, that is not always the case. Vehicles contain many defective parts and one of the most common of these are tire defects. Defective tires cause some of the most serious accidents that result in severe injuries and sometimes, even wrongful death. There are different types of defects tires may contain, and it is important to know who to hold liable for them. A Houston tire defect claims lawyer can identify the liable party and help you claim the damages you deserve.

Tire Design Defects

The design specifications of tires typically amount for different temperatures, road surfaces, handling, and speed. Although the design of tires is constantly changing, certain standards must still be met to make sure tires comply with federal safety standards. Sadly, some tire manufacturers intentionally cut corners in order to save money. When manufacturers do not meet the required standards set out by the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS), it can result in many defects, which may include:

  • Belt wedge defects: Belt wedges are rubber components that prevent the belts of the tire from rubbing against each other, which could cause the belt to detach.
  • Cap ply defects: The cap ply sits between the top of the belt on the tire and the tread and it makes the belt edge more durable.
  • Skim stock defects: Skim stock is a rubber component of the tire’s fabric reinforcement or steel wires. A skim stock defect can cause the tread of the tire to separate at a higher rate.
  • Inner liner defects: The inner line is a tube built into a tire that keeps the compressed air from escaping the tire and prevents moisture from entering the tire. A defect in this liner will cause a tire to fail more quickly.

Tire Manufacturing Defects

It is not always the design of a tire that is defective. Sometimes, an error occurs during the manufacturing process that also results in a defect. Common tire manufacturing defects many include:

  • Liner marks: The different layers of a tire are separated by sheets of vinyl or fabric known as liners. If the imprinted rubber is cured, it will make the tire less durable.
  • Trapped water and air: The curing process can leave water or air behind, which can result in an insufficient bond in the rubber components.
  • Contaminated material: During the manufacturing process, contaminated material may be trapped inside the rubber components, preventing them from bonding adequately.
  • Cracks in the inner liner: The inner lining of a tire maintains tire pressure and retains compressed air. A manufacturing error can cause these liners to crack or separate.
