Texas nursing home neglect victim has bone-exposing bed sores

The elderly are among the most vulnerable in our society. They are often brittle and require intensive care. When such vulnerable members of our society are abused due to nursing home neglect, it is critical to hold the abuser responsible.

One Texas family is deeply mourning the loss of a beloved member of their family. The wonderful woman was an adored grandmother and mother. Her family is outraged at the lack of care they discovered she received in the nursing home that she was staying in during the months leading up to her death.

Reportedly, the woman complained of back pain during several visits with her son. It wasn't until the woman's death that it was discovered the woman had developed excruciating bedsores due to improper care, leaving the bone exposed. This was in addition to the mold under her breasts and frail nature from lack of regular bathing and staff not assisting her in eating.

Trusting a member of one's family to a nursing home may be a difficult decision. When a family places their trust in care takers, they should feel confident the decision was made out of love for the best of the family member. In addition, the family should feel confident that their elderly family member will be appropriately looked after and taken care of. Obviously, this Texas nursing home broke this trust.

This nursing home could be held accountable for nursing home neglect. In the case of such instances the family members of the decedent could be entitled to compensation to cover not only funeral and burial expenses but to cover for their grief and sorrow as well. No one should have to end their life under such conditions.
